In Hawaii I stayed at the Hilton Waikoloa Village on the Kohala Coast of Big Island. A huge resort with a lagoon, pools and a monorail between the buildings – but what I will never forget are the dolphins: you often see pods come into the bay and head out again, and whale sightings are not uncommon in winter.
If you play golf, the settings here are spectacular: the two Waikoloa courses (Beach and Kings') are right at the resort, between black lava rock and the Pacific, and the Mauna Lani and Mauna Kea courses are just minutes away.
I almost always book through Booking.com – for the free cancellation and the genuine reviews. Hotels.com is also worth checking to compare prices.
