My hotel in Lugano for forty years. The Delfino is in the Paradiso district, a few steps from the lake and the funicular up Monte San Salvatore, and the old town is a quarter of an hour’s walk away. Rooftop pool, garage in the building, family-run – they recognise you when you come back.
For me Lugano is the ideal stopover on the way to Italy: an evening by the lake, a plate of risotto, and in the morning you are in Milan in an hour or at the ferry in Genoa in two.
