In 1999 the Benetton family invited me to an event at the Golf Club Asolo and put me up at the Villa Cipriani. It does not get better than this: a 16th-century villa within the town walls of Asolo, a garden overlooking the hills of the Veneto, rooms with antiques, and a restaurant that brings the region to the plate.
Asolo itself is a jewel – one of the most beautiful small towns in Italy, with the Golf Club Asolo (27 holes) ten minutes away and Venice an hour.
