Thirteen years ago I was here in Apulia for a meeting – a very beautiful hotel right on the beach at Peschici, on the Gargano peninsula, the “spur” of the Italian boot. The white old town of Peschici clings to the rock above it, the bay is sheltered, the water clear.
The Gargano is Apulia without mass tourism: pine forests, cliffs, the Tremiti Islands off the coast and the pilgrimage towns of Monte Sant'Angelo and San Giovanni Rotondo in the hinterland.
