A cool hotel in a place you have to see: Solvang is a Danish village in the middle of California, with windmills, half-timbered houses and Danish bakeries, founded in 1911 by Danish immigrants. The Royal Copenhagen Inn sits in the middle of the village, in the same style, with a courtyard and pool.
Solvang lies in the Santa Ynez Valley, one of California’s great wine regions – the film “Sideways” is set here. It is two hours from Los Angeles, half an hour from Santa Barbara, and the wineries begin at the edge of the village.
I almost always book through Booking.com – for the free cancellation and the genuine reviews. Hotels.com is also worth checking to compare prices.
