Table Mountain, penguins on the beach and wine estates on the doorstep – Cape Town combines city, nature and pleasure.
Hardly any city has a backdrop like this: Table Mountain stands right in the middle of the city, below it the V&A Waterfront, the colourful houses of Bo-Kaap and the beaches of Camps Bay. And half an hour further on, the wine estates of Constantia and Stellenbosch begin.
For travellers from Switzerland, Cape Town is easy: hardly any time difference, so no jet lag, and prices are low – good food and wine cost a fraction of what they do at home.
The drive to the Cape of Good Hope along Chapman's Peak Drive, with a stop at the penguins of Boulders Beach, is the finest day trip I know.
I prefer to stay in Sea Point or Green Point: on the promenade, safe, with plenty of restaurants and close to the Waterfront. Camps Bay is prettier, but more expensive.
I almost always compare hotels, apartments and guesthouses on Booking.com – with genuine reviews and usually free cancellation.
