The city that never sleeps: skyscrapers, Broadway, Central Park and the best food in the world on every corner.
New York needs no introduction – and is still different every time. What grips me most is the walking: through Greenwich Village, along the High Line, through Central Park to the Met, and in the evening across the Brooklyn Bridge with the skyline at your back.
The city is expensive, especially the hotels. On the other hand, the subway runs around the clock, and you can eat superbly for little money, from pizza to dumplings in Chinatown.
In December New York is beautiful with the Christmas lights and the ice rink at the Rockefeller Center – but bitterly cold and crowded. Spring and autumn are more relaxed.
Midtown is practical but noisy. I like Chelsea and the West Village – quieter, more charming, and ten minutes from everywhere by subway. If you want to save money, look at Long Island City in Queens.
I almost always compare hotels, apartments and guesthouses on Booking.com – with genuine reviews and usually free cancellation.
