Clean, safe, tropical and a food paradise – Singapore is the perfect stopover on the way to Asia or Australia.

Singapore is the easiest city in Asia: English everywhere, the metro runs to the minute, and you can drink the tap water. I used it as a stopover and was surprised how much you can fit into three days: Marina Bay with the Supertrees, Chinatown, Little India, the Botanic Gardens.
I stayed at the Parkroyal Collection Pickering – the hotel with the hanging gardens on its facade; the hotel page describes it. Chinatown is within walking distance from there, and the hawker centres are the reason you never need to go to an expensive restaurant in Singapore.
The heat is constant: 31 degrees and humid, all year round. So head out in the morning, retreat to the air-conditioned malls or museums at midday, and go down to the Bay for the light show in the evening. Sentosa with its beaches is something I can do without – the sea is full of ships.
Chinatown or Clarke Quay for somewhere central and lively; Marina Bay for the view (and the price); Bugis as a cheaper alternative.
Hotels I know personally and describe on their own pages: Parkroyal Collection Pickering.
I almost always compare hotels, apartments and guesthouses on Booking.com – with genuine reviews and usually free cancellation.
